Why are trigger warnings so important?:
Meme culture has appropriated the word 'trigger' so when people hear the words 'trigger warning' they don't understand what the big deal is. the reason that trigger warnings matter so much are:
-personal trauma will always stick with someone even if they don't actively think about it.
-if you don't trigger warn posts that includes potentially harmful subjects, this can be incredibly dangerous for someone with serious trauma related to your post.
-besides mental stress and severe ptsd or panic attacks, not trigger warning can actually be physically endangering to someone who might want to harm themselves or others.
How to trigger warn CORRECTLY:
Now on to the reason i made this carrd: i've seen a lot of people attempt to trigger warn posts, which is great of them to do!! however, they write tw's incorrectly which doesn't help anyone, so, here is how to trigger warn properly, do's and don'ts style:
DON'T:
-just write 'tw' without saying what the trigger warning is for, someone who gets triggered by one topic but not another one, wont be helped at all by this.
-put punctuation before or after the trigger word (INCLUDING the word 'tw' itself). e.g 'tw// trigger, trigger' instead of 'tw // trigger , trigger' if someone has a word muted, the word will still show up on someone's timeline, because the punctuation adds to the word and makes it a new word.
-censor your trigger warning: li*e this or l1k3 th1s etc..., some people with a certain trigger will mute that word so it doesn't come up on their timeline. but, if you censor the trigger, the post will still show up on their timeline and potentially be really harmful.
-don't make jokes about triggers, e.g 'tw // happy couple' this is the kind of stuff that makes people not take tw's as seriously as they should, joking about triggers make trigger warnings ALL seem like a joke, which is not the case.
-not write a trigger warning at all. hopefully, by this point in the carrd you'll have realized why this is bad-
DO:
-write your trigger warning VERY clearly without censorship i.e 'tw // trigger' or 'trigger warning // trigger'
-space out punctuation if writing multiple triggers e.g 'tw // trigger , trigger'
